Can you believe January is almost over? Well it is! With that said, how many of you are actually on target for completing or starting the goals that you have set for 2013? It is always fun to set goals, however they are a challenge to complete. Especially when you are up against that next meeting you have to plan or quote you have to send. As meeting professionals we need to be careful to not have everybody else’s plans affect our own plans for our lives. Goals are very important. Each goal you make, you get direction for completing another goal. If you don’t have specific goals, you can lack direction. And who wants to be wondering around life aimlessly? A great practice that I find useful is adapted from Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. In the book, Steven provides a time-management table that is very useful to me when putting my goals in the order of priority. The table helps you list your tasks in the following four areas:
- Urgent/Important
- Not Urgent / Important
- Urgent / Not Important
- Not Urgent / Not Important
I encourage you to read this book and especially try to use the concepts of this tool to find out which tasks that are most important to you. I would love to hear your feedback on all you accomplish!
